Vresse-sur-Semois: What to See and Do?

Vresse-sur-Semois is the administrative centre of the municipality, which also includes Bohan, Laforêt, Membre and Mouzaive. The village lies at the confluence of the Semois and the Petit-Fays rivers and has been the regional hub for centuries — market, church, crafts, art and tourism all come together here. Things to do in Vresse-sur-Semois

The centre of Vresse around Place de la Lindi is compact and perfect for a spot on a terrace. On the third Friday of every month from April to October, the Marché du Terroir takes place at the Espace Cognaut (5.00 pm–8.00 pm) — a lively evening market featuring local producers, music and entertainment for children. Vresse is also known as an artists’ village, with several studios and the presence of established Walloon artists such as Jean-Marie Londot (Namur), who created works for, among others, the church in neighbouring Laforêt. Places of interest in and around Vresse

The Saint-Lambert Church stands at the heart of the village, next to the former town hall. The Pont Saint-Lambert, an old bridge over the Semois shrouded in local legend, is an iconic landmark. The Espace Cognaut along the Semois, the tourist and cultural centre, is also a good stop for those wishing to learn more about the region. Furthermore, countless old tobacco drying sheds serve as a reminder of the rich history of tobacco cultivation in the Semois region — a tradition that is more deeply rooted here than anywhere else in Belgium.

Vresse as the tourist hub of the Semois Valley

Vresse serves as the administrative and tourist centre of the region. The Centre Touristique et Culturel at 83 Rue Albert Raty provides information on walking routes, cycle routes, kayak hire and events throughout the Semois Valley. Several themed walking routes, car tours and signposted cycle routes also start from Vresse, taking in the region’s most beautiful villages, panoramic viewpoints and nature reserves.
